I like how the beam leads the eye to the bird, but I would like to see the bird larger in the frame. I like the bird's posture and look of intentness and the feather details.

    Outstanding Desmond !!!!!!!!!!

The image is very appealing to me and love the composition/pose !!! The bg just set it up so well !!! A great example of a small bird in frame looking mighty fine !!! About the only thing I could see changing is the head merging with the border of the perch !!!

Interesting how others will feel since this is different and will be range of opinions !!!! Big Time Congrats !!!

    Hi Desmond,
This one feels a little odd to me. Personal taste would take me to do a vertical on this one...:D:cool:

    Hi Desmond,
I really like this as presented as it shows so well the vulnerability of the tiny bird out to set off on his adventures...
    Regards,

Interesting pose, Desmond but the blurry ledge bothers me.

I think Al's statement about the responses was right on the mark. And Nicki said what I want this photo to be about.

The bird in this photo is a juvi swallow. A week or two ago it was still sharing a nest with a couple of its siblings. I don't mean this to be another portrait - like most you see here in BPN - of a swallow. So certainly not mainstream :) I'm using the large, empty space/background to represent an unknown future the swallow is going to face. A tight crop, IMO, will not work for that purpose.

The perch acts like a leading line towards the bird. It, IMO, also gives some 3-dimensional feel to the photo. I do wish it were a better perch though.

Personally, I think the background should be larger :)

i like all the negative space!! really makes you think about the bird. i agree desmond. more space, especially below may make it more dramatic.
