I made this gold finch image a few months ago. I was trying to get them to come to another perch closer than this. However, when I saw the interplay of the bird and lilac blooms, I took advantage. I kind of like the way the bird is facing away from the bush into the empty space - kind of different.
40D with 500 f4 and 1.4 TC. Evaluative metering at ISO 400 with EV - 1/3 with f7.1 and 1/640. This is a 50% crop with levels applied.

I like the composition, it's nice and natural looking with pleasing colors. To me, however, everything except the bird seems rather dark (& it may just be my monitor.) Also, the sky seems to have a kind of magenta splotchiness to it. I see that in my skies sometimes, I think it's colored noise?? But I haven't been very successful at getting rid of it. Can you see that, or is it just me?? If you see it, can you or someone comment on it? One other thing I see is directly to the bird's left is a particularly dark blotch with a much lighter blotch beside it. Doesn't look to me like clouds....
I like the idea, light and eye contact. I find the bird too centered and the image looks somewhat unbalanced. Clone marks behind the bird have been mentioned.
