    Default GBH -- unusual pose?

Photographed this GBH this morning. I've never seen one posing like this and wonder if it is seldom seen? I'm guessing it is drying its feathers, but always before I've seen the wings spread wide. This feller stood with its wings in this position for a very long time. I cropped by almost half and adjusted for contrast, sharpened, etc.
    All criticism welcome . . .

Hi Wendall - nice bird - love the pose.

Head looks a little soft on my screen, and its hard to distinguis the body of the bird from the rocks - not enough seperation there for my tastes.
I would have tried to go in tighter to the head/neck area only to see if I could get something happening there.

    keep them coming

    Hi Wendell,
I've certainly never seen a GBH that looked like this!! Agree with Lance's comments but an interesting image nonetheless.

Lance and Nicki, I wanted to present the entire bird to get an answer as to whether the pose is common. In doing so I guess I did not distinguish the body from the rocks well enough. Any specific suggestions on how to do this? And I still wonder about the pose?

I have seen this many times on the Hillsborough River. I will post some photos.

I believe that this is a mating display.

i think the pose is fairly common. seen it many times in the nesting areas. i think -0.3 or -0.7EV would have been a little better here. as far as getting some separation from the bg, may be difficult. the colors seem to be very similar!!

    Agree with suggestions !!!

Pose wise ................ the bird is a flasher !!!!! :D Actually it is a common pose and I believe he is trying to sun himself to raise temp in the feathers for clearing parasites !!!!

btw if you have captured a behavior and have no clue to what is going on remember we have a forum just for that sort of thing !!!!

Thanks for the tip, Alfred, I was unaware of the forum. Now I've taken a look at it and see it was just the place for my inquiry.

Clearing parasites, Al? Not very romantic.... though being parasite-free is probably a plus if you're bird with a hot date (or anyone else with a hot date, for that matter).

So this is just a warming of the nether regions. Interesting. Now where's that bikini clipart.... :D
