Well just started looking through my weekends work... I figured - if you want to change yor results, you need to change how it is you do the thing in the first place.

So - the first of a few once I sort through them.
Taken lying in the mud on the foreshore - tripod was 3 foreshore rocks held together with wet seaweed (I kid you not) certainly got some weird stares and comments. Yes it was wet and cold but hopefully they are better pictures th if I wasn't wet and cold.

This is full frame, straightened a tad and sharpened that is all. I could probably clean up some of the dark lines in the water, but thought id post first.

It looks to me like your new tatics are working! Beautiful bird and background, nice low angle, sharp and the exposure is right on. I like the pose and the mound its standing on adds extra interest. My only suggestion would be to add canvas to the left. Very, very nice. I can imagine the looks you got while lying in the mud...with rocks and seaweed as your tripod!!!

    Very well done Lance,
I like the balance in the composition, The tip of the tail is pointing to the upper left intersection of the frame, and the ending of the little earth mound is almost in line with the lower right intersecting point. You have very sharp details in the feathers, head angle is good and eye contact is right on. I like the low angle of capture, and the background is very pleasing to the eye. Good show...looking foward to some more...

    Looks really good Lance !!!!

Really like the direct eye contact and sweet low angle, does make a world of difference. Getting an all blue bg would have been better as you mention but this is plenty good. Would give more room at the right since the rock looks odd with so little room to its right. Might also want to select the very right of the rock and run a slight shadow/highlight to even out !!! I like it a lot !!!

    Hi Lance,
What a difference a roll in the mud makes...:D...The low angle is such a great way to improve an image!! I would add canvas to the right but otherwise no nits from me. Very well done!!
    Regards,
    Nicki

Sharp and clear. The details in the mound are outstanding ! Have been looking at it again and again :D:D

Oh, the bird is very good, too. ;)

Agree with Al though on adding a bit more room on the right.
