Gannets! As Artie has been posting, it was crazy good on the Gannet trip with Chris Dodds. Fantastic trip.
Paired Gannets have a frantic few moments of fencing with upright bills when reuniting on the "nest"...this one is getting an early start.
There's a lot not to like about this photo, particularly the OOF chick in the foreground, but it shows some amusing behavior....
My photoshop skills don't even qualify as "meager", so have at it as you will. Developed in Lightroom2, saturation on yellows bumped up among other things, exposure was pretty "hot".
Canon 1Ds3, 400 DO w/ 1.4 EX, ISO 400, f/7.1 @ 1/2000. Flashed w/ Better Beamer on manual....
This is too funny! I don't know this bird's behavior, but you sure captured some of it and gave it a great title. I certainly would overlook technical stuff for this pose.
Hey Bill, Great to see you posting; did we have fun or what? You could have titled this one "Giving and Getting" since the landing bird is getting its butt bitten. A small crop from the bottom to just below the eye of the second bird on our left would tighten things up a bit. It sure is a chaotic scene but gives on a feel for what goes on up there.
As for the bright whites, check out the Linear Burn thread in Educational Resources.
