    Default Partying on South Beach

I photographed this image on Ocean Drive with my Canon 40D. ISO 200, F/11.0, 5.0 sec, EF 28-135mm, 56mm, No Flash, Pattern Metering, Auto WB, Auto Exposure. It's amazing how many people come up to you when you have a camera on a tripod. I would appreciate some ideas on how to get the neon from blowing out. Maybe a candidate for HDR.

At one moment I saw that thumbnail of your photo. After I finished reading other post and came back, the thumbnail is gone. What happened? I don't see the big one either. No image, big or small.

Don't think you can do it in camera with one shot given the dynamic range of the scene. What you can do, one way I can think of, is to shoot another shot based on the exposure of the neon. Then you put the two images one on top of the other (assuming you use photoshop). After that, use mask and just paint on those neon lights. Or, if the neon have not blown out yet, adjust the exposure in camera raw or use the blend mode "multiply" in photoshop to see how much you can recover. Then merge the two shots using mask and painting with brush.

Does my repost look more like the original?

i dont know what to tell you here, richard but i think you may be on the right track with the HDR. i like the compo here. was thinking the same as you said. thought it needs a little more saturation!! i think the light blurs would be nicer if they went through the entire frame too!!

Thanks Desmond. That is how the image looked before. What did I do wrong?

Not sure. I hadn't done anything unusual before I uploaded it. Had you converted the profile to sRGB before you uploaded your original/

    Hi Richard !!!

The profile is about the only thing I can think of to have that change? For keeping everything from in check I agree with Desmond on the multiple exp then blending the layers. Should give you lots of control but your original doesn't look bad at all !!! For these I like using as wide a lens as possible and getting close to maximize the dof !!

We should keep tabs on a rising fool moon at the beach !!!

Desmond ....... that disappearing image thing happens a lot with South Beach images :)

Very nice Richard, you kept this one quiet in todays class?
I like the colors very much, the part that bothers me a little is the bottom of the shot, just wish you coulsd see a little more.
    Great shot.
    Congrats,
