We've had cooler weather this week - almost autumnal. It's made me start to think about how I want to process images this year since it's my first fall season with a DSLR. With this image I started with an antique color action - it puts a brown "antique" finish over all the color, letting a little of the color bleed through. I then added a mask and removed some of the antiquing from the bud and blossom. I think it gave it a definite "fall" feel, much more than the original green BG.

This has a very nice, subdued feel to it. A perfect treatment for this image.

I like the effect and the COMP. Only one thing bugs me: the light blemished area on the leaf just inside the llc... It could easily go...

Jules - I really like this. Nice subtle colors. Autumn is in the air in Colorado, too. Nice artistic interpretation.

Thank you Harold! I used my favorite lens in my extensive three lens arsenal ;), the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM. I got it in January during their annual rebate sale when I bought my first DSLR (the Canon 40D) and I have been hopelessly in love with the lens ever since. If you have a Canon camera and want an unbelievable lens for not a lot of money, this is the one. Almost every pro I know who uses Canon and who does a lot of macro for flowers, insects, etc. uses this lens and I know why. It's tack sharp and the bokeh is always to die for. Why this is not considered one of Canon's "L" lenses is beyond me because I can't imagine anything better.

A sweet image and the coloring creates a nice 3D effect.

Jules: I am thinking of the 40D. I have the same lens and love macro photography. Right now I am using the 20D and hear it is well worth the 1K for the upgrade.

Joanna, it's the first DSLR I've owned so I have nothing really to compare it to but...I have been extremely happy with my images and the way the camera works. Oh sure, there are a few minor things I'd change but, for the most part, I couldn't be happier. It just seems to do everything I ask of it and more.

Joanna, I don't mean to sound like a used car salesman but I owned a 20D for three years and my friend upgraded his later to a 40D. Last month we both moved to the dark side with the D300. I know it's a jump but you may want to look before you leap. We are both really, really happy with our new rigs. NIkon has a real nice macro too, with VR, which my friend is real happy about.

Oh, by the way, Julie, I LOVE your image. :D Where did you get the action?

Bill, I get most of my actions free from atncentral.com. Occasionally I find them on other websites but that's where the majority of mine come from.

Thanks a million Jules. There seems to be tons of info there. That'll keep me busy for a while.
