This is some kind of tern, don't know which. Unfortunately, I was out of time when I came upon him, would have liked to get a few images, he was screaming about getting some food but I couldn't wait for anyone to show up to feed him. It was very cloudy, overcast (we had alot of that this summer). Taken with the 40D and the 100-400 at 400 f6.3 ISO 500. Thanks for looking.
Hi Carole! Love the open beak. A slight head turn towards us would help the image. I would crop tighter and eliminate as much of the OOF rock as possible. It doesn't really add anything to the image. I would also give the bird another round of sharpening. Thanks for posting!
I like the three-dimensionality of it, with that oof foreground leading to the bird, the bird as the center of interest and then the blurred background. I'd try to make the eye more visible though.
Hi Carole,
I like your composition, I too agree with Doug on taking a wee bit from the bottom, to delete the oof foreground, and to place more attention on your subject. Your eyes should lock on to the bird, not the oof rocks... I did a few modifications, hope you like...
Lance, Please forward the bail money... This is most likely a young Common Tern...
