This was among my first images for the new year having made it on New Years Day during a snowstorm.
40D, 600 f4.0, 1/320 sec AV no comp with -2/3 fill flash. Had to "fix" all the snowflakes which had the highlight on one end from the flash. Also had to compress more than I usually like to to make the file under 150K. Hope it looks ok.
Thanks for looking and good luck with the new site!
Looks great. Love especially the framing, the pose, and the rump. Exposure and head-anlge perfect. And the berries do not suck either, or does the snow. Or the red blush in the background. Pretty cool how the fruit stuff on his bill matches the rump color...
This one is right up there with your GGO...
Later and love and have a great '08. artie
ps to boys and girls: note, this image is not oversaturated and it is not oversharpened

Thanks Jim and everyone. Actually at our house we had only rain on New Years too. Carol and I had just finished our crazy Holiday season and were in bed at 9 on New Years Eve and headed north before sunrise to get above the ran/snow line for a day of birding and photography! Wasn't too far for us at least.
Ive been seeing loads of images of this species lately. This one is right up there with the best Ive seen. The pose and snow makes it a real winner IMHO. Cheers Jim!
Axel, ISO 400. It's not noisy at all in the original. For some reason it took a lot of compression to fit the guidelines and it does look a little noisy as a result.
