    Default Motif: High Key

Another high key image This is very much typical. Again the important part is having the right conditions, heavy overcast. The exposure wast set manually to + 2 2/3 over ambient. The histogram is all blown except for the birds which is what you want. There is zero detail in the bg. Image was made with a 70-200, Mk2, ISO 400 f 5.6 1/100 sec

    Comments welcome and much appreciated

Need a few things to pull this one off !!!

High winds and getting some bait in a bucket. The egret will fight over it and rocket up into the air !! Fun to photograph. This particular one was a natural fight with no food involved but doesn't hurt to stack the odds !!!

    I bow to the king!!!

    Here's my question, Al...

When you say that the image was taken at "+2 2/3 above ambient" what does "above ambient" mean? Is that the correct way of saying "Up from the zero on the camera's meter? (See...we all have stuff to learn!)

Yes ...... you take the camera metering and add that amount of light. In perfect conditions 2 2/3 is about right At other time you can't add as much.

Its a good idea to check the bird closely to make sure there are no flashing highlights on the bird itself.
