A snowy egret taken on a heavy overcast day. One of the choices here is to go with the flow hight key.
This actually could have been a little more over since the reading was Plus Two. The histogram will look peculiar since the bg will be blown out completely. The key to this images is recognizing the conditions needed for making,

would be nice to have some birds!!!!! and could you please turn the rain off too!!:D
for all you south florida guys, i got this weekend off so lets get together and figure this one out if you want to. might have to go to the west side to get it though!!
Excellent composition, image and exposure Maestro...:D I like the rendition of the different tones of white that come into play. The details in the wings are sharp and at the same time it has a creamy feel to them...congrats...lets see more...these whites are very hard to shoot; and you make it seem so easy...:)
Hi Al, Beautiful image all around.
I have a Question. During the first GTG at SAAF i was able to make a few images similar to this one, my only problem was, even though i had the right exposure and at Iso 400 and 800, some of the images were very noisy. Do high key images show more noise?
Hi Adams Generally not? Most high key will be white and light shades show little if any noise. If you underexpose the image at all and have to go into PS to open then you will be in trouble. The whites look strange and will get noise
Something to think about for a specific circumstance ..... at the beach photographing flocks of terns early fall, you can set up with your 500 lens and converter for the birds blasting off in a group. Since the birds are white (mostly) the ISO can be cranked up a lot to be able make the image at f 64.0 and enough shutter speed. Will give a tremendous dof and really look different. Noise wise not bad at all because of the light tones.
Beautiful image Al. Excellent composition and feel to it. Was wondering if the legs are a little soft or is it the monitor Iin my office?
Any how Al, you uys doing anything this weekend?
Regards to Fabs.
This is a lovely effect, Al. Thanks for the tip on high key photography- it's usually disconcerting to see this blown-out BG whites...takes some courage to trust it will work. I'm sure if I try it, it will take some experimentation.
