I went to Plum Island early Sunday morning. The weather hasn't been great so I wanted to take advantage of a sunny morning. The only trouble was I got there 25 minutes before low tide. I had to do a lot of hiking and the birds were spread out more than I would have liked. This black-bellied plover iamge was taken with D300, 400 VR, and 1.7tc. The light was getting harsh but I had to follow this fellow for about a half hour before I could close enough for this shot.
What I really like about this image is that the subject isn't so isolated as many are these days, so that only the feet and body are in the plane of focus.
This image has enough depth of field both in front of and behind the subject to really make it look real, rather than created in PS.
