With my last Wolverine post people were asking how close I was to these animals and if I felt threatened....well...with the Wolverines I didn't at all...but this wolf pack was a different story. While these wolves were photographed under captive conditions, these animals were far from tame. Often they really tried to show their dominance to us....pretty scary if you are at eye level, or even lower (like I was for this photograph). But, we faced our fears and got away with some scenic photographs while the sun lit the mountains in the background.
Looks like the lead wolf is eyeing you for dinner (licking tongue). Might have been nice to not have the trees right behind them but I am guessing you were limited in moving around and not becoming a snack. :)
The perspective is unique and certainly gives the image a different look. Well done there. And nice scenic BG fills out the image.
Jasper, this is really wonderful. The perspective is so cool and the image has a special tension because of the glance from that lead wolf. What a rush it must have been to be in your shoes...at least your crouching was a sign of submission rather than aggression! It also reminds me of a mind-blowing photograph that NG's Joel Sartore took a few years back (with a remote, however). Hope you don't mind me posting: http://www.joelsartore.com/gallery/f..._nature/35.php
Very cool! I am actually wondering how a tighter crop centered on the lead wolf would appear. I know that you wanted to create an environmental image but maybe you still can get it with an even higher visual impact from the low perspective.
Awesome image Jasper. You took a calculated risk and it paid off!!! For better balance in the overall scene, it would have been better to have a big tree on the right of the frame rather than right behind the wolf pack, but that really is nit picking.
Don't really mind the trees in this shot Jasper, having the wolves on either side of the tree group would have taken interest away/obstructed view from the BG IMO which is awesome in this shot! Love your post processing here and the poses of the different wolves in the group. The low angle is really nice here, but I am wondering as with my own shots if a higher angle would have given this a little more perspective by showing a bit more of the environment closer to the wolves (do you understand what I mean). All in all excellent!!

This is one of my favourite photographs of all time. Truly spectacular feel created here by the wide angle and the sun. I feel it helps that only one wolf is looking at the camera.
