    Default Arctic Tern

    Artic Tern, Katinger Watt (Germany)
EOS 40D, EF 4/300L IS, fill flash with 580 II, hand held, f4

maybe I should have used more fill flash, but I liked the dark silhouette and I couldn't take another shot as the bird took off.

the perch is not the best, but that's all there was.

Hi Markus, I agree with your critique. More fill flash would have helped make the bird stand out - as it is I would push it to a silhouette with levels and crop out the perch like this

Too bad about the choice of perch you had. Not much you could do about that. I think ,as mentioned, some more fill would have helped this but it might have made the perch even brighter which would not have been good. The old "rock and hard place".

Love the lighting and silhouette in this image but believe this should be posted in the hands of man. I actually like the original if there were CW rotation appled.

I like the colors in this one. I think that you could straighten the image, darken the silhouette and it would be really nice. I, too think that more flash would probably lightened the perch and not really added to the image.

Funny how we all see things differently. Which makes life more interesting, I'm sure :)

This is my take. I left the whole space bellow the Tern because I ffeel it balance the space better, Cropping is an unbalance cimpo.
Although I'm a fan of dark silhouettes, I kind of liked the detail in the Tern so I kept the top part clean.
Used Nik color Effex Select GHD filter darkening the bottom instead of the top and kept the detail in the head.
    Very cool image!

    Hi Markus,
I like what you were trying to do here. But the rail is a wee bit too over powering. See if this pano crop works better for you...:D
