Taken at Sunnyvale Baylands close to sunset. Adjusted the raw image for exposure level.

    Here are the settings -

    Canon 40D + Sigma 50-500 F4-6.5 APO DG HSM on Mongoose 3.5a
    ISO 400, 1/160 sec, 417mm at f6.3, exp comp. -2.0.

Your comments and feedback would be appreciated.

Moody and a good looking image I like the looks of the bg and can only wish for a different wing position either fully up or down. Crop wise I would take some from the bottom for a more pano look !!!

Unless you can pan with the bird perfectly, 1/160 is going to be tough for flight. Even then you'll get a sharp head and blurred wings. Push that ISO higher! Agree with Al's points too. Thanks for posting!

Wow, I get the impression the bird is under water!!! I like everything but the wing position. Keep them coming!

Al, Doug, Fabs, thank you for your feedback. Unfortunately, this was the only shot that came out with least motion blur on the head. I was more interested in the golden light and the blurred effect of the wings... well, I will keep trying... :).

Here is the pano version as Al and Doug has suggested...

Your image is rather soft to my eye from the slow shutter speed...panning is tough at those SS...but it can be done!! I really love the BG and light, too bad the pelican's face is not crisper.

    Pano-version looks better to me.
