The light was fading fast when I captured this image tonight, and I was surprised to see how well my 40D did at iso800 (with high iso noise reduction turned on).

    Comments greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    John

Does look good John Not much noise on the fur !!!

I like the careful framing with the room for virtual legs and the slight extra room to the right Very appealing image !!!!

great composition and good exposure of the dark fur. I use my 40D up to ISO 1.600 if I have too. Depending on the subject I often get very good results, as you did here with 800.
I like the high grass in front of the moose. Gives a little information about it's habitat.

Well, seems like your 40D handled this well! Very nice framing with the high grass on the right...nice! I'd really love to photograph such an imposant animal one day.

    Great composition John,
Very well placed in frame, I like the pose... an image, out of National Geographic...:D

A beauty of an image John! The pose and tall grasses work great together. Best of luck with moose photography this season!! Oh, and I agree on ISO 800 and the 40D (but I typically shoot it without high iso noise reduction turned on). I've not given it a proper test yet, but I'm not sure that in-camera noise reduction is that beneficial given the drop in burst performance that it creates. More testing is necessary...
