Default Peregrine with Prey (graphic warning)

Another in the series of peregrine images I took the other day.
This time with the prey (pigeon) showing. Tough light--in the shadows with a ray of sun beaming in on the bird.

Great action captures, Bonnie, thanks for the warning, so I was prepared :)
If this were mine (Ha, I wish...:) ) I'd mask the sharpening away in the branh.

    Big congrats!

I am not sure I know exactly what you mean. Feel free to edit this image if you care to.

I like this one and do not mind the lighting. Masking the sharpening on the branch may bring the bird out in the image. It appears this one has some bling on the ankle.

Hi Trey, thanks for your comments. I do need to mention--the bling is a small part of the hand of man--a band. I can read the number on it in some other images that I have. I am going to see if I can report a sighting of this bird.

It would be neat to find out where the bird came from or if it has been in the area for a long time. It may also be able to tell you the age.

Here it is, remember I'm working with very few pixels and a jpeg file :)

I blurred the whole image on a layer and created a layer mask, painted black with different opacities so it looked more or less natural. Burned the highlights in the back and the branch. There's a tutorial in the Edu Resources Forum on how to do all this, I think it's called Selective sharpening, but it can ne used to blur the BG too. If you can't find it, PM me, I'll find it for you.

Thanks, Fabs. I'll explore this more. I am not used to working alot with masks, and I tend to forget about them--I need to use them more!

Great capture and action. Details and BG look good, too. The eye looks a bit whitish on my monitor.

    Hi Bonnie,
I like the colors, the BG, and the lichen covered perch.

    Update!
I received an answer from Ed Deal of the Falcon Research Group and he banded this female Peregrine on June 3 2001. She is part of a program on San Juan Island Peregrines here in the Pacific North West. (Seattle area) They banded 300 young Peregrines.
    Too cool!
