This is a Stone Scorpion Fish. Very difficult to find something to focus on - the mouth has an interesting texture - looks like of like velour But it's so far in front of the eyes - that DOF can be an issue. So far, I only have the one strobe - a 2nd strobe would help fill in the harsh shadows - but with this subject, I think the shadows help bring out the features (such as they are)....

Wouldn't it be easier on us if the fish would give up this silly camouflage thing they insist on doing? :)

I like it a lot Amy !!! The second flash can fill or create shadows depending on how you use it Would give you more contrast and detail !!! Nice housing !!!!!

btw I was teaching a class and was pointing to a scorpion fish motioning to the class not to touch it when it flicked the tail and got me with one of the spines. It was very scary. Don't wish it on anyone !!!!!

    Hi Alfred!

Wasn't that nice of you to demonstrate why the class shouldn't touch it! :)

So far, I haven't had that experience, but I do seem to find fire coral while rummaging around chasing fish and turtles. I think I'm becoming immune to it.

Yes - I got the last Aquatica housing off the line for the D70s, which they promptly discontinued, also.... so I got a 2nd refurbished body as a backup - because when the D70's go, it's time for a new housing.... but it's a wonderful housing.

    Thanks for the comments.

Great capture! Reminds me of when Gail and I used to dive! You did a good job with the DOF and the symmetrical comp works well.
