I was lucky to get this little guy in flight at bird sanctuary near my home in Johannesburg, last year. Fortunately the light was good so shutter speeds were no problem.

Camera Model: Canon EOS-1D Mark II
    Date/Time: 2007:02:23 074:40
    Shutter speed: 1/2000 sec
    Aperture: 6.3
    Exposure mode: Av
    Flash: Off
    Metering mode: Multi-segment
    ISO: 640
    Lens: 500mm
    Focal length: 500mm

Very cool capture of this beautiful bird. Great pose and eye contact. The wings look a bit noisy on my monitor and I would remove the sheen on the bill.

Lovely, Chris - you make me green with every shot you post :D. The light is great and I like the detail and light on the undersurface of the far wing. I am not sure whether the water drops are good or bad - I would try a version without to compare as they seem to be pulling my eye off the subject. Only other comment is that it may be nicer if the the near upper wing coverts were sharp - not sure if a smaller aperture and increased DOF would have covered it - difficult comment to make because this is a fantastic achievement with a very challenging subject. As always looking forward to your next post.

:eek::eek: Unbelievable! I do not have 'idols' (out of principle), but you are some great bird photographer. Just wish you would contribute also in the form of more constrcutive comments to these forums and not only with your stunning bird images. You have got so much to share...;)

Well done here Chris! Excellent detail, very nice wing position, sweet light and love the blue water BG. I know how fast and small these guys are, you did exceptionally well here!

This is really super! Like the rest have said, light is sweet and the bird is so sharp. The eye contact and slight blur in the left wing really make this a winner for me!
