I thought the contrast between the fresh rufous feather edgings on the bird and the blueish pebbles was pleasing. I realize that the bird's feet are hidden, and for some that may be a spoiler.

D300, Tamron 200-500, hand-held, in fog (although the bird was close enough that it probably didn't matter).
ISO 500, 1/800, f8.0. Brier Island, Nova Scotia last weekend.

Oh Richard, I quite like the contrast which I think sets the sandpiper off very nicely. I like the compositon and don't mind at all not seeing the feet. Nice job!! I might take a tiny bit off the bottom, so that you just see some of the green line on the rock.

not a spoiler richard!! you still included the virtual feet so i think you are OK there!! one thing that sticks out to me is the large rocks. they almost overpower the bird. especially the two in the bg. great looking bird. love the pose!!

I like it a lot Richard Excellent setting and about all I would do is take a little from the left so the rock does not look clipped Love the eye contact and I'm fine with the legs !!!

    Hi Richard,
Beautiful little bird and so sharp! I do find the rocks a little overpowering although I love the colour contrast.

I like the contrast between bird and surrounding rocks; very dramatic and very natural. Excellent capture. I agree with others that the rocks might be too strong an element in the overall composition. Maybe try lightening them a bit so they are part of the fading background.

One quick addition - the rock that is the most troublesome to me is the large one in the upper left. It's strong shadow is also a distraction.
Lots of great potential with this image.
