I was on a morning stroll in Panama looking for birds when this sloth was pointed out to me by one of the local guys. I wished for a clearer view but this is all this sleepy guy would give me. Taken with 40d and 500f4 + 1.4x. f5.6 @ 1/50, iso 500, flash as fill.

    Hi Trey,

The surroundings don't really bother me - you got a really clear shot through the leaves.... OK - maybe the bottom right is a little distracting, but oooooh, how cute! These guys are just so interesting. And I guess that even when they're really awake, they don't move to fast, huh?

I can't see a lot of the effects of the fill - so I guess that means it was done really well...?? The detail in the fur is great. 1/50th is pretty slow to hand hold a lens that long - I assume you had a tripod?

Thanks for posting. I don't know why I have a soft spot for sloths....

    :)

    Thanks Amy

I was using a tripod. The flash was just used to lighten up the shadows. These guys seem to love the dark shadows of the canopy so I always had my flash going. They do not move very fast but when they want to go somewhere they manage.

Cute. I thinks so too. We saw one with a baby but I did not have my big lens with me so they are just a speck in the dark.
