    Default Motif: Color me red

This is from my recent family vacation in Maine and the contrasting flowers and hydrant kept catching my eye. Since then I'v been noticing how many different varieties there are for hydrants---kind of wierd, I guess.

Thank you for your comments and critiques, they are most appreciated!

I like it Katie. Different, sorta busy, good exposure and sharp. To me this is a fun, pleasing image.

..... Gus leave it up to you to suggest the dog !!! ..... but not bad !!!

Great use of color can only suggest separation with the flowers. In this case you can move them and use a slight different angle !!! Neat !!!

This really appeals at the gut level (which is what this stuff is all about, isnt it), but as I think about it, it seems to me that the dark foliage background really makes this image. Imagine if it had been up against a brick wall!

    Hi Katie,
This is really lovely - very eye-catching and well composed. Funnily enough, when we were living Florida, I started noticing how many different coloured fire hydrants there were and I always intended to do a photographic study of them. Sadly I never got around to it...
    Regards,
    Nicki

Nicki, I've been thinking of doing just that same thing. Today I saw one in yellow and green!

Katie, this is really lovely! I like the way the flowers dip and wrap in front of the hydrant and the BG is fabulous! All the different colors and textures really make this one sing. Good going!!!

Nice image! As for the different colors -- there is a reason for that. The hydrants are color coded for the amount of water they can deliver.

Really lovely image, Katie!! Who'da thought that in a picture combining both flowers and a fire hydrant, the hydrant would steal the show!! Somehow, I think these particular flowers are perfect for pairing with the hydrant. :) I think a photographic study of different fire hydrants would be great! There is (or used to be) an internet site of many, many different manhole covers! You'd be surprised what pretty manhole covers there are! LOL! Hydrants might turn out to be an amazing study!
