I have taken a large number of similar images near here, at Grand Pre, recently, and I wanted to convey the overall feel created by the flocks of peeps in their restless activity. I have taken note of John Chardine's excellent work with similar flocks just across the Bay of Fundy, and I'm not sure if this representative sample of mine really works or not as a pleasing or interesting image. I chose this out of many similar images, for the pattern of the birds in the air blending into the rocks, and the green bush. D300, Tamron 200-500.
Hi Richard,
Although this is an impressive sight my eye is having trouble finding a place to settle. I also find the green bush distracting - I don't think it adds anything to the image. Perhaps a contrast boost and a little sharpening would make the image pop more. It also looks a tad dark on my screen.
Regards,
Nicki
Hi Richard Agree with Nicki on the contrast boost but love the composition !! Clean edges, packed with birds and all looking good !!! Did capture what you were after .... and very well !!! Got a winner !!!
If you ever get a chance at one with all white (mostly) birds like turns and gulls you can set something a little different. The large flocks usually will blast every once in a while and you can go to max dof along with a good shutter speed. White has hardly any noise so you can crank the ISO to 6400 which will allow you to stop down a lot. With the 600 and converter f64 for a great (I mean great) dof The do come out with a special look since all the birds will be rendered sharp. Linda our editor has one of those that just rocks !!!!!!!!!
Also agree on a little sharpening and a contrast boost. It's an interesting image but it's hard to find a place for the eye to land (as opposed to most of the birds!)
