    Default Loon Preening

After receiving Artie's latest bulletin I decided to post this image from yesterday.

I have been using the D Canon bodies for all work done from my kayak since I bought my first 10D in 2003. I now have a 40D and have been using it all summer. My lens choice for handholding from my kayak has always been my 100-400. I guess I just must have a sharp copy! All my digital images of loons have been taken with this combination.

40D, 100-400 @ 400, 1/320 @ 5.6, ISO 800, Spot Metered off green vegetation, hand held from kayak. Late day, overcast.

Not sure why or how this posted at avatar size as it is 700 x 467. I'm going to try again!

I just fixed it, and replaced the 'ATTACH' tags with 'IMG'. I like the angle, preening pose and soft light. Maybe a bit more room on the left.

Nice pose...that is one happy looking loon! I too would like a bit more room at left, but still OK as is. I tried kayaking this summer - without any gear - and I can't imagine photographing in one of those! Couldn't believe how easily one might tip over trying to work a bird. Maybe the one I had was too narrow...

Beautiful pose and capture Eleanor. Loons are one of my all time favorites as is Bala. Used to go to Bala in the summers for vacation with a friend . Thanks for sharing this lovely capture.
