    Default Canon Xti issue

Traveling in Venezuela, my camera decides to fail. Everything works except in all Manual modes some buttons and autofocus do not. Seems that the final turn to click the lens into place is requiring more force than before, so this might be a clue, but the camera has not been dropped. This trip was primarily to take photos, so what bad luck.

Seems like you have two issues.

Its possible the travel itself was a little rough on the camera. Did you by any chance travel with the camera and lens
attached? If so, that's one possible cause for the lens to camera problem.

The actual workings of the camera could also be due to travel, jarring something loose. I would also try another battery
and maybe even resetting the camera to see if that clears anything up.

If its still under warranty, I'd send it in for a checkup if all else fails.

I do sometimes keep a lens attached when I travel. I didn't know that could be a problem. But the camera/lens connectors seem to pop out by a few mm., so I don't know what part is not working.

My choices are to buy a camera here for like 3 times US prices, or buy a new one and have it sent international here (also costly in terms of price and lost vacation days), or try and get it fixed here (1/2 way across the country in the city with Latin America's highest murder rate).
