Just returned (yesterday) from a fantastic time in Botswana.

Manual, spot off grass (no comp), 1/500 @ f/5.6, ISO 800 w/ high-ISO noise reduction on.
    Post-production- ARC, CS3, full frame

See you where there is light, or at the computer

    Best,

    Chas

I like this a lot. Great light, composition, mood and light. Can't wait to see more images from your trip.

Not so easy to get light in their eyes! Really nice light and colour. Super portrait!

Great image with a lot of good eye contact. The hand up position adds interest.

I really like the coquettish look this baboon gave you. The light is beautiful and the hand to its lips are a bonus.

The eyes are the focus of the image to me. They give life to it. The hand to the mouth adds a great deal of interest as well. And the colors are killer. Lots of tones and hues of brown, golden honey and all in between. Good image chas.

Ditto what others have said, and a great hairdo to boot!!
Look forward to more from Botswana, Chas. The sad aspect for me is, I have to wait another 12 months for my Botswana excursion!
    Where did you stay Chas?

    Cheers
    Marc

    Marc,

This was my 3rd year hosting STL workshops in Botswana, and we have it down to a glitch free Instructional Photo Safari. Although, we add lodges in the front and back of the workshop we do primarily mobile camping, as this affords the best access to early and late wildlife. We are always the 1st out, and last back. Our custom configured photo vehicles greatly increase the stability and ease of long lens use. Our 24 year guides are second to none and the camp staff provides exquisite meals and warm hospitality. Our mobile itinerary this year included Moremi, Khawi, Savuti, and Chobe. '09 may include a workshop to Central Kalahari and the Pans in March, as well as our usual August workshop.

    Best,

    Chas

    Thanks for the info Chas
Unfortunately, we have already booked for next year, (12 nights @ Mapula, 3 nights @ Deception Valley Lodge & 3 nights @ Vic Falls), but I will certainly keep your workshops in mind for our next African sojourn;).

    Cheers
    Marc

    Hi Chas!

Lovely intimate portrait! I hope you don't mind that I took it into PS....as I found it a bit flat and removed a bit of which seemed like a colorcast....I think with this approach you still have the feel of really warm light, but this way it would look better in print IMO (as images without much contrast come out really flat in print). Keep up the good work!

    Jasper,

With all the dust in the air and warm late afternoon light the image presented reflects the scene as visualized.

I agree, for printing a boost in contrast may prove beneficial, but how much is subjective at best.

Thanks for the explanation of the situation as you saw it Chas. It is indeed a striking image - the eyes are mesmerizing!!

Also just a friendly reminder of article 6 in our "Guidelines" :).
