I photographed this beauty at Fairchild Tropical Gardens last week with my Canon 40D on tripod. Usually this bloom is a mess, but caught it at it's peak on a great background. ISO 400, F/4.5, 1/25 sec, sRGB, EF 24-105mm F/4L, 85mm, No Flash, Pattern Metering, Auto WB, Auto Exposure.

The bloom is as shot, but the lower left spike is so long. Do I leave it or clone it shorter and recrop. I thought, "It's not nice to fool Mother Nature". What do you think?

What a cool plant Richard! I very much like your image! I wonder how cropping just cropping a bit off the bottom would look?

Leave the one branch alone! It fills all the negative space and gives the viewer something different to look at than the average flower photo. Nice work!

Mother nature should rule here, since she has created a lovely balanced composition for you.
