Travel to Elephan Butte and Cabalo lake.

Hi everyone,
I'll be travelling to Bosque del apache in new mexico this november. I have heard that there are also good photo opportunites at Elephant butte and Caballo lake. Has anyone been there? Is it worth the trip? Thanks in advance.

You might consider posting this on the Southwest forum as well. I live in Albuquerque, NM. I've been to Elephant Butte, but never to photograph. I've never been to Caballo Lake.

I have been to Elephant Butte and had equipment with me, but didn't see any real opportunities to shoot. I'd add that I had grandchildren with me and wasn't there during good shooting light or opportune times of day.

We were there right before going to Bosque del Apache and after Bosque, Elephant Butte would be a big disappointment.

I didn't make it to Caballo Lake.

Are you looking for birds? You won't find much at the lakes that compares to the Bosque. If you are looking for something different, try White Sands and/or the Very Large Array.
