Hi Chris Cute little guy !!!

Good idea using the fill flash I'm sure it helped a little with the light. The image is a little soft probably from the slow shutter speed? If you made it a t 300 and work in the magnification factor of the camera.... you used a 480 lens at 1/125 sec !!!! Those compact lenses can fool you !!!

Not sure about the selected crop? Not so much the space up top but the way the legs are cropped. As in bids you want (try) to have some eye contact/head angle going for you.

    Hi Chris,
I like the color and texture of the water but for my taste this close of a crop needs to have more direct eye contact as the head/face/eye is the central focus of the shot. Seems to be some visible PS artifact on the water/rock border as well.

    Steve and Alfred,
Alfred I will definitely work on the faster SS. I can only go up to 1/250 on my 10d due to the synchro with the flash. Steve you are dead on about the artifacts. When i looked closer i could easily spot them. Getting sloppy in my PS skills. Thanks guys for the input it is truly appreciated.

Should be able to use high speed sync on your flash with this setup. I think I would liked the crop to be behind the front shoulder or even a horizontal image.

    Robert,
Before reading your response this morning I was looking to improve my hummingbird photography and I found a step by step tutorial on the subject of high speed synch for Canon and Nikon by Ralph Paonessa. What a coincidence. So thanks for the tip! I also see that Art has an article on the subject too.
