I had some distractions in front of this tiger's face that I didn't know how to Photoshop. So I did a big crop. I like the idea, but the combination of the entry level quality lens and a significant crop, the image isn't as sharp as it should be.
Good point by Carole. This image has potential, but the eye must be sharp. Unfortunately it's not in this photo. I would like to see a JPG of the original though. Thanks for posting!
At 55 mm how close were you? For these type sharpness is the key Plan ahead and stop down !!! Would try it again with your longest lens and a tripod !!!
Lisa was quite close to the tiger but the only lens she had was the kit lens Canon 18-55 mm which is difficult to get good sharp images from it especially at the 55mm. She and I would love to go back here, when we get better lenses.
Hi Lisa,
You have the idea and concept. With a little bit of practice, you will be there. No nits from me, all techs. have been addressed. Keep it up, looking foward to your next one...
Never say never! I took one look at those beautiful stripes and the problem with the eye not being sharp and I somehow knew that this would be a knock out with a simple "Illustrated" action applied to it.
Just a reminder that if it's not technically perfect it doesn't mean it should go in the trash (just ask anyone who's ever posted an image in the Out of the Box forum!) :D:D:D
While there are certainly great images to be made of the pattern of a tiger's stripes, I do like this COMP as is with the eye in the lower right thirds position. As originally posted, you might want to sharpen the fur on the left half of the image. Furthermore, the eye could use some work. You could eliminate or tone down some of the highlights, darken the pupil a bit, and then lighten the shaded upper part of the eye (but not too much).
As for Juile's version, it really tocks. Thanks Julie!
