    Default Tern In Flight

This is a couple of frames before the other image I posted, went with an 8x10 crop because it helped with comp.

    1/1000th, F/8, ISO-400

    More details:
    1. I cleaned the background the best I could with the patch tool.
    2. I used a photoshop action I use on portrait touch-ups (with different settings) to help mute the background even more.

    C&C Please.

Hi Dustin, great looking image here! I like the colours in the BG, and I like the low fly-by - we can even see the top of the back. Too bad about the shadow on the body though.

Hi Dustin! Really like the eye contact and detail in the head. Far wing looks good, but I'm not crazy about the near wing position or the shadow. Also, I'm wondering if you applied some blurring to the far wing? At 1/1000, I don't normally get that degree of blur. Thanks for posting!

Interesting thought, I too would expect the wing to be much more sharp at 1/1000th, I wonder if because it was lower to the ground and more taking off and getting going that there would be more movement vs. just keeping up in the air? - Not sure.

The RAW shows the same blurred wing movement, so I know it wasnt the action that got it...

Great eye contact and setting. I also wish the near wing were higher up. Maybe that was a very fast-flapping tern. :)

I really like this image and have come back several times. The front wing gives the image a great feeling of depth. The composition is nicely balanced, the BG is good as is the sharpness. In fact there's nothing about this image I don't like. Doug and Daniel commented on the shadow but I am never (well almost never) distracted by them. On the contrary, they are the totally logical and reasonable reminder that there is this incredible light source up there called the sun occasionally objects in the way of the sun's rays cast shadows!

Nice light, eye contact and exposure control. The BG is very nice as well!
