This is a Photoshop composite comprising canna lilies and other plants photographed at a nearby botanical garden, and hummingbirds photographed using a multiple electronic flash setup in Panama. The hummingbirds were extracted separately onto transparent layers in Photoshop CS3, and then copies of the birds were pasted onto the background vegetation. The hummingbirds were then positioned about the flowers and sized using free transform. What do you think about this approach, and this particular image?

I like it Norm !!!! The PS work looks really good !!!! Would try toning down the red flowers since the white does dominate the frame. Would like to see the hummers being the center of attention.

Could also do a different crop. Since the flower up top is cut might as well do away with it and make the image into a pano. Would make the hummers more prominent Alternate idea is just removing the flower and cropping just on top of the leaves !!! Excellent !!!!!

    Al:

Thanks for your helpful comments. I agree that there should be a way to better emphasize the birds. I've tried to do that in this newly posted image by positioning the three hummingbirds around a single flower. I hope the result is better.
