I had originally posted this puffin during the period the forum was experiencing all of those technical problems. Several people suggested I crop the original, full frame horizontal to a vertical and there were also suggestions about the eye. I've been having trouble implementing those but I'm curious as to impressions on the crop. Thanks for the input!

I think the crop works just fine Beth. Nice job with the exposure. Sharpness is excellent. Eye looks a little funny, but I've not seen one of these before. Thanks for posting!

I like the crop and details. Exposure looks good considering the harsh light. The 'Rembrandt BG' works well here.

Nice exposure control and details. Looks like you had to deal with harsh light. Nice job.

I love that solid (almost) black BG. Details in this one a great. My only nit is the light blue feather? on the forecrown.

Great exposure showing lots of detail. The light is a bit harsh though. I'm fine with this crop, alternatively I think a tighter crop around the head will work well also.

Personally I'm not sure the black BG is ideal for this bird - at least not here. The front looks fine, but the whole back looks odd superimposed on the BG...almost like a cutout. I can't see a blue feather on top of the lore??

If there is a bird more soulful than a puffin I have never seen it. I think I ould like this in a tighter crop, though this works perfectly.
