Nicki, I like that you have lots of detail in the whites and it is moody; I'm not sure why I don't like this one so much. Maybe too dark? I'll be interested in the other comments.

Hi Nicki - think its maybe too dark and not sure if all the neg space on the right works.

Tried a couple of adjustments (Lightened, sharpened a tad and cropped) - not saying its any better - just another view.

    :)

    Hi my lady,
I like what you were trying to do here. You captured the mood, but the image is a wee bit on the dark side. You lost details on the left side of the frame. Perhaps a little fill flash was in order. Lance's repost is a little better on the whites; but still no details on the blacks. You could have done a vertical capture. On your original composition, I would recommend cropping about 1/4 from the right side of the frame to take out some of the negative space; not too much...that being said, I do like the mood...:) keep them coming, looking foward to see your next creation...:D;)

Nicki, I like it A LOT. There's an art exhibit here in the US called the "Birds in Art" show put on by a museum in Wisconsin which tours the country. One of the pieces several years ago was a scratchboard of a snow goose that was very similar to this piece. I was astounded by the work, and was in awe of the highlights and shadows. I get the same feeling from this piece. "De gutibus non disputandum", but I really like this.

    Hi Guys,
Thanks so much for your comments - much appreciated as always. I still think that I prefer the original crop!! As you so rightly point out Dave, each to his own...;)
    Regards,
    Nicki

HI Nicki Here is my take Did a slight crop and lighten the eye just a tad. The one thing I wanted to change was the relationship of the eye in frame, sort of want it in the intercepting third. I love breaking rules but this seem to work Love the mood

    Hi Al,
Yes, I really think that I prefer your crop - it makes such a difference having the proportions altered!
Many thanks for all your input and encouragement - it means a great deal to me.
    Best regards,
    Nicki
