Mike, these are tough little birds to get good shots of. The whole image appears dark, noisy and not quite sharp. My PS skills are not good but I see a few areas where there is evidence of cloning?

Hi Mike you did place the bird in the right place of the frame with more room in the direction he is looking. Less room on the back more up front Good !!! Head position is fine and got a good looking pose !!!

The only problem is the crop size Anytime you have to take a lot it will show in the final image and there is not you can do about it. Even if yo start with a fairly sharp image by the time you crop any imperfections will turn out !!! btw I don't think I've ever asked if you are using a tripod?

Mike, the bird is sharp and the pose is great. Titmice are really hard to photograph. This is not a criticism but I've got a question about your settings. I use a canon 400D, which I think can be regarded as a cheaper version of the 40D (I think they use the same sensor). I hardly ever shoot at ISO 800 because I get too much noise, but if I did, with an aperture of 5.6, I would usually get a shutter speed greater than 1/125 unless the light was really poor. I do realize that the canopy in an eastern woodland forest can be so dense as to cause virtual twilight in the woods, and this could be the issue. You sure photograph tough birds in difficult settings.

Also, I hope you haven't given up on your 50-500 zoom. You haven't posted a shot with it in a while.Forgive me for being nosy.

Mike, being blunt takes a real effort for me, it isn't my normal style. These are very difficult birds to manage and I think you did a good job getting him in the open and close up. If you are anything like me the PP is a challenge and I often don't see things in my photos until someone here points them out, then I wonder how I missed it. I look forward to your next post.
