    Default Tricolored Heron beach prance

I didn't get close to this guy...it came close to me!! What a beautiful looking heron, it was quite a thrill seeing this species from up close (although I'm sure all you southerners are used to that:D) Taken at Ft. Desoto in early June. I preferred this one to eye-level ones I also took as the horizon on the lower angled ones cut either through the neck or came too close the the head area (plus I like flowing water here).

    Canon 40D + 100-400L @235mm, 1/320s., f/8, ISO 400, +0.7 EC (via histogram check), fill-flash @ -0.3 FEC, handheld.

Great light, pose and details. I would prefer a slightly lower angle but can see why you like it the way it is. It is a bit tight in the frame for my taste.

Oh that is sweet. Really neat use of fill flash and angle of the camera, and I think shows some clever creativity - especially that flowing water. Would usually be a bit tight in the frame for my liking but I think it really works with this image. Great work!

Nice pose. It is tight but it doesn't bother me. I wish the flash were a bit less. The light on the heron looks too bright for the brightness of the BG.

Although the flash seems a bit strong I really like the tight framing here and the way the wave is included in the frame. It is always a great experience being accepted by wildlife, isn't it?

It's a great experience to have this beauty come so close to you. Amazing capture with good details and exposure.

I like the pose and the eye in this one. Sharpness is good too. The higher angle doesn't bother me here. However the diagonal created by the lines of the water don''t seem to obey the laws of nature and draw my attention more than I'd like.

I like it. Try making it darker with the Lightness slider in Hue Sat; that would lessen the effect of the flash. It looks as if it could use a bit of CW rotation. Love the raised foot and the head angle, and yes to a bit more room front and above.
