Friday morning I watched as the male continually brought fresh caught fish to the nest and hovered with his catches, yet never delivering it to the two crying and hungry youngsters in the nest.
He would then fly to a nearby perch and either take a couple little bites or unceremoniously, dimply dump the fish on the ground. Obviously, he was trying to get them to fly for the first time.
It was actually quite foggy when I shot this...fortunately I caught a SW breeze for a few moments and a hole opened up when the male flew in, allowing me to capture this particular image.
They chicks finally do fly by the way, but not until the following day.
And no...I didn't enhance the fishes blood...I actually toned it down just a hair.

I would crop from bottom and from the left to de-center, but ohter than that, I am just crazy about this shot, the bloody fish is a huge plus, the pose and colors, the eye contact, light and exposure too, everything just too fine :)
Love it Jim !!! One of the best I've seen lately !!! Got to love the wing position, angle and having the bloody fish !!! Would take a little of the bottom but its mostly taste !!! Big Time Congrats !!!
With a crop from the bottom and a bit more red de-SAT this will be a perfect image. The pose, the light on the underwings, and the bloody fish are astounding.
