Call this one a grab shot - was not setup for this when it presented itself - no time to make adjustments...

So I got what I got - Blew the whites unfortunately, flying towards me would have been better. Would have wished for better light as well - shot close to mid-day in harsh light.

    Like the wings.

Hmmm...doesn't look like the light was that harsh anyhow :)

Very sharp and clear with lots of details in the wings. I like the background, too.

    Did you have to crop?

Oh, when would you show us those non-grab flight shots, Lance? I expect them to be perfect :D:D

Hi Desmond - you are too kind - my friend, Its a rare occurrence for me to post a flight shot - just never really happy with them for one reason or another.

I cropped a little from either side -it was horizontal.

    Hi Lance,
Looks very good to me too. I think that the head angle is fine but let me know if you need bail money!!!

Looks right fine to me as well! Super detail, love the wings, and the bird is nicely separated from the water. Do more 'grabs'

.... actually the capturing the bird past our position got you here !!!! :) Best to make the exposure before the bird is flying away This is just past it (not bad)

My favorite by far of all your posted flight images Lance !!! Gorgeous upper wing view and full spread Exposure not bad at all, lots of feather detail and the white is fine. For flight you usually don't have the luxury of setting up so being alert and having the proper settings makes all the difference. Big Congrats on this fine flight image !!!!

Lance, you got a nice, sharp image here with a very nice DOF (depth of field). For my tastes, it looks a bit dark overall. I'd encourage you to lighten the image a bit and then clone over the burned out white patch on his face.

Hi Lance! Nice job with the grab shot! Sometimes you take what you can get, and you pretty much nailed this one. I think that the bird needs some separation from the BG, and to that end, here's a repost in which I lightened the water and the bird, and boosted contrast a little in the bird. What do you think of the changes?

Hi Doug - works for me - I had cropped it and thats all, I find it very hard to get a flight image that I am happy with.
For instance this one - wasn't happy with the whites or the fact there is no detail in the eye and wold have liked the BG to be more OOF. Geez hard to make me happy isn't it :) :)

Great capture Lance. Nice details with that 500mm. You must own stock in Sigma, cause of the nice collection you have.
    Regards my friend.
