Experimenting with side light (no choice, because of the boardwalk location).
The sun yielded a little bit to a thin cloud, softening the contrast.

I am very drawn in by this image. The dark reflective bg, the soft lighting on the bird, and the feathers gently draping her (or his?) back give it a peaceful, quiet feeling. Here, too (ref my post on Al's PG), I like that the bird is unaffected by the photographer, as evidenced by the head position.

I'm usually not a big fan of 'Rembrandt' BGs, a.k.a. very dark :) but in this case it works really well and I like the balance between light and dark.

    Hi Fabs,
actually I like your image very much.
I think there is a need to see not only pictues that are made in perfect front light, everything bright and clear.
I like the peaceful feeling of the image too.

I never thought much of a dark BG like that until I met Alex.....after that I considered it the "cat's meow". It's that Rembrandt look that I like......as if going back in time to visit works of the great masters. I wouldn't want an entire portfolio of them.....but I'd sure want a nice sample in there. Different......and nice.
