Good reflex and timing! It looks a bit soft on my monitor though. If you don't mind post-processing, I think this image could be improved with it. I'd try enhancing the contrast as a start. Probably sharpening the eye, too. Then crop a bit of the top, too. Just my opinion.

    Hi Paul,
I'd crop it in half and turn it into a pano...
Agree with Desmond that it could a tad sharper and possibly a little lighter.
    Lovely bird and great pose!
    Regards,
    Nicki

-3EV is too much with a dark bird. i'm thinking you should have been going +EV with dark subjects. i like the compo. different, but a pano might be nice too!!

Harold I was at at -0.3 EV (-1/3 EV) not -3.0 EV
I agree it could be sharper and brighter...I'll work on another version in PS

I agree, in retrospect I could have used a bit more exposure to give me some more feather detail and to brighten the overall image. I'll see what I can do with it in post.

Hi Paul- agree with all of the above, I also would have thought you would need to be in the + comp for this secnce - nice action.

Yes to + compensation and a big yes to the pano crop. It have used a bit more room below (if you have it...) If you have CS3 try the Linear Curve preset... IAC, the blacks need to be blacker. Thanks to all above for their excellent suggestions; you guys and gals are learning! And a big time thanks to Harold, Nicki, and Lance for their membership support. It is greatly appreciated.

Alright guys, sharpened it as much as I could (but it wasn't much before I got sharpening artifacts...it had already been sharpened some) and brightened it up a bit, tried to get some blacker blacks as well.

Also here's one in a pano crop.

Artie-I didn't have any more room on the bottom or else would have left it in...the original shot was full frame.

Great suggestions !!! I like the pano idea with a little more room at the bottom

For getting the blacks blacker try with selective color Should work !!!! btw in the crop I would like seeing a little of the green at the top Looks really good with the water being kicked up !!! Sharpness wise is not bad and did very well with the panning !!! Excellent !!!

Agree that the pano is the best. Like your action capture with a little more room at the bottom (as Al suggest) and also to the right of the frame.

Hi Paul, I love cormorants and I agree with the suggestions made and vote for a pano with some, very little, of the green still in view on the top.

Much better with the Levels, Contrast, and the blacks, but this is what I had in mind for a pano.
