Photograghed thiis awhile back, but wasn't quite sure whether to keep it or trash it. I liked the eye contact. My PS work always leaves a lot to be desired. So apart from the noise, halo, etc what do you think of this kind of image?

    C & C, good and bad welcome.

Eye contact is nice Roy. Some + EC or fill flash would have helped bring out some detail in the darks. I'd rather see a horizontal crop. Thanks for posting!

Interesting crop idea, good details and BG. The underside of the bird looks just black. You could try to recover some of the details using S/H and/or curves. It looks a bit oversaturated and the BG has some color noise.

Hi RR, I see that you figured out how to post this as a new thread. That is good. I like the crop. Where do you live, somewhere on the west coast I would guess. Please add your location to your profile. Where was this bird photographed?

Thanks for the comments Artie. When this image was made, I lived in Miami and am a longtime friend of the Forns. I now live in the suburbs of Atlanta and small birds make up 95 % of my photographic subjects now,

This pelican was photographed off of one of the bridges near Long Key (could be considered West Coast). I was shooting with a 500mm hand held when this guy/gal flew by. I cropped it from a full frame horizontal.

Thanks for offering your DB, but I already have it and just bought Robert O'Toole's CD. I'm just a slow learner who needs to spend more time with the tutorials.

    Thanks again.

Hey Roy. YAW. I am amazed at the location as this bird is showing red on the neck--I have never seen this on a Brown Pelican in FLA--it is seen on birds from the real west coast during the breeding season.
