Vincent Grafthorst asked if I had captured this subject either digging, eating or with eye contact. Unfortunately I didn't get the first two but here is one with direct eye contact.

Captured in the Kgalagadi transfrontier Park.

You make me very jealous, we have got this little fellas where we live but they are rarely seen.

I am not sure about the crop, but I think a little bit more off the left may be better.

Real nice John !!! Agree with Ken Maybe an in camera vertical would have been the way to go Very easy to make it now Love the expression and fine detail !!!

Thanks you very much Ken, Alfred, your suggestions on composition are taken on board.

The fox was far enough away to shoot him central to the frame in the original, allowing me to crop either side. This one is FF on the LHS as seen as I chose to include the small dead looking plant in the LHS bottom corner, I could also crop to the other side and include the subjects shadow, or vertically as you prefer.

Thanks for taking the time to comment, appreciated muchly, john
