Hi all, I've been busy taking care of my 15 month old grandson who is absolutely the cutest, smartest and most active little boy, ever;) My daughter-in-law had knee surgery...Anyway, that's why I've not been around lately. And it looks like I have whole lot of catching up to do.

This Hummingbird (don't have my field-guide with me so can't ID) lives on the Oregon Coast and I took this through a window. Canon 40D; Av f5, Eval -2/3; 1/800; ISO 800 and 100-400 @ 220mm

I like the pose Katie! Sharpness is going to be a challenge when photographing through a window. Whites on the left edge of the gorget seem a little hot. I'd like to see a tighter crop too. Thanks for posting!

    Hi Katie,
What a sweet pretty little bird! I agree with Doug about the crop and it does look a little soft on my monitor too. It's good to have you back - we missed you!!

Welcome back Katie - agree with the above - a tighter crop will be better.

Did you have the car turned off when you took the photo???? The first time I took a photo from the car I had the car running - camera resting on the window and wondered why my shots were not as sharp as I expected.

    :)

Thank you all for the feedback, after I posted this I thought perhaps a tighter crop, mostly off the top? would be better. And Lance, it was through a beachhouse window. I think the original is a tad sharper; I'll have to check.

Nice pose and background. May be a rufous hummingbird.

Look at you getting that front wing to be out of the line of the bird's face! Way to go!!!

I like it a lot Katie Keep working for getting the bird larger in frame !!! Remember to pre focus on the spot you think he will be in and wait !!!

Resizing the image should not make it seem "less sharp" Remember to use bicubic sharper for downsizing !!!
