Great find and eye contact. The angle is a bit steep and I find the branches above the bird a bit distracting. Thanks for sharing!

What a neat-looking owl! Like the composition and sharpness, along with the eye contact. BG is less than ideal, both because of the branches and the high-key areas. Thanks for posting!

Cool bird. You might wish to lighted the eyes a bit. Moving about one yard to your right might have improved this a ton. Can anyone figure out what the result of doing so would have been?

Probably this was the only position we could get a reasonable gap through the branches. These birds are generally difficult to find in "daylight" as they lay up in the thick branches. This was actualy a family of three my others are worse.I have got the Male sleeping showing off hios eyelids nicely but no eyes, he also has a very large branch over his head.
Thanks for your comments I will try to lighten the eye a little more.

Whenever we critique it is with the assumption that what we suggest is possible even though at times it may not be. The question still stands, "Why would the image be better if you could have moved one yard to your right?"

Maybe because the bird's body and head would be parallel and would get a nicer BG instead of the white sky the picture is showing.
Or at least that's why I would have done.

Well, this is getting more and more interesting!
May be because of the perch placement?

Nope. But imagine moving right one yard and getting about one foot lower...

You would have gotten rid of the two branches that are currently behind the bird's back and head, because they would be behind the bird.

Hey Chris. Way to go. You are correct. While this is a no-brainer for experienced photogrpahers it is sometimes hard for others to grasp.
