I caught this guy one day at the locks in Port Canavernal. There were about a hundred birds having a feeding frenzy. Unfortunately, it's a federal installation so you are limited on where you can go thanks to 9/11. Anyway, this caused me to be shooting into the sun which was still a good ways up - 4:25 pm. 6/9/2008
Canon 20D, 100-400mm at 400mm, flash, ISO 400 f/8 1/1600,manual exposure, bridge as tripod railing between lens and flash :D
I have a problem with the wing spread causing an underexposure in that area and the water being dull. I have tried a bunch of stuff - this is a one exposure HDR in Protomatrix and then worked a little more in PS CS3.
Thoughts - suggestions not requiring to be shot on federal property or arrested
Got it at peak action and did great exposure wise with a back lit subject !!! Would remove the little rock by the wing if its fine with you Might also include just a little more of the rocks Excellent image !!! Must have been a treat seeing the feeding frenzy !!!
I only have a little more rock on the left side. This shot is most of the original capture. I can't remove the rock for something I'm using picture for, but I will try taking it out for another version.
Thanks for the thoughts.
Can we post another copy of the picture to the same thread or do you need to start a new one/
Patty
You can add another image in your thread.....just do it as a reply so the original one remains. Great action.....and good capture at the right moment. I also think that you did a nice job with the exposure given the circumstances. Well done.
I am confused by what you wrote: "I have a problem with the wing spread causing an underexposure in that area and the water being dull. I have tried a bunch of stuff - this is a one exposure HDR in Protomatrix and then worked a little more in PS CS3."
Why would the spread wings cause underexposure???
IAC, I simply lighened the image with the middle-tone slider in Levels; sometimes it pays to get back to the basics. Then I applied a gentle curve and repaired the flash eye (though not many pixels to work with...)
I like the image, ESP the fish and the raised wings. Wish that the bird's head were turned a bit more towards you.
