This was taken at Nickerson beach on Saturday. I was concentrating on these guys as they were busy clamming. Once they got one.......they usually took off.......and most of the time away from me.....this one took a good angle towards me. The next frame I have a gull trying to grab a free meal (he was unsuccesful).
Mark 3 with the Sigma 300-800mm lens at 800mm an ISO 800 at f5.6 and 1/2000th of a sec. Tripod mounted with Wimberly head. Cropped from horizontal to a vert. for composition.
As always comments welcomed and appreciated.
PS No hue or saturation used at all........beak is that color.

You hit the jackpot on this one, excellent feather detail, pretty good exposure (a few hot pixels on the right wing) and that shell is killer :)

I'm wondering if the beach is naturally sloped like this? Love the image, but you should clean up that spot between the feet! :-)

Outstandig capture and very good light. Too bad that the bird was not in perfect plumage conditions because this excelent image deserves a perfect bird. Would love to have this one on my files Roman

I like it a lot! Great moment captured, nice light, wing position, details and the clam puts it over the top for me.

    Hi Roman,
Nice angle, wing position, and pose on that bird and perfect head angle from that clam! I really like the glowing light of this one too. Don't forget that spot between the feet.
