Welcome to BPN Nazhiyath!! A good looking subject with a nice catch! The harsh light is very evident here...try photographing early in the morning or late in the afternoon for more pleasing (and warm) light. Keep them coming! :-)

Hi Nazhiyath and welcome to BPN.

Harsh light as mentioned by Daniel. I like the composition coming from the right lower corner. I wish for more eye contact but you are going in the right direction.

Welcome once again and keep them coming!

Welcome! You got some lovely details in the feathers and that eye is nicely in focus. Try to get the head of the birds to be either even with the camera sensor or turned in your direction so eye contact with the viewer can be made. You did get some harsh lighting but you might be able to tone that down some in post-processing. I'd suggest trying the shadows/highlights adjustment in Photoshop if you have that available.

    Keep them coming, Nazhiyath!

Hi Nazhiyath! Welcome to BPN! It's always nice when you get a good behavior shot. As mentioned above the light was not kind to this image, and a little more eye contact would have helped. Look forward to seeing more of your photos!

Agree with previous comments I feel the two most important are the light and head angle !!! Nice having you here and looking forward to more !!!

    Greetings Vij and welcome!
That's a great start for sure.
The observations about the bright light and strong contrast are appropriate.
The photo is fine, but the same image taken early in the morning, or in the evening, would be much more pleasing.
You have a super gear combo ... so if you get the chance, it would be great to see some small birds through that 600!

Hi Vij, welcome, I see you have invested in some big glass! Nice behavior shot, I agree with all of the suggestions above. You could also probably use a higher ISO (400 or 800 with that 40D). This would allow you to use a much faster shutter speed, which helps sharpness. Dan Brown

PS, haven't we met on Sacramento Audubon Society field trips?
