    Default Tips for Gannet Photography

Planning a trip to Australia's only mainland Gannet breeding Colony - some 6,000 pairs.
Have never photographed Gannets before - anyone care to share any experiences??

Birds are apparently quite to humans.

    Hi Lance,

As with other B&W birds I suggest trying for early morning or late afternoon images or overcast cloudy day images. Try to isolate still birds to avoid other birds as oof clutter. Also, look for distant pleasing bgs. Shoot fliers hand held. I have photographed the Gannet colony in Newfoundland, and I think the situation in AU will be similar.

I assume you will be near Portland, Victoria. I am planning to go there as well. When will you be there?

I will be in Australia from August 29th thru October 26th, but I'm not sure exactly when I will visit the Gannet Colony.
