    Hey, What's up??

I liked this hummingbird's happy expression, photographed last week. I am told that the extra flap from the neck is part of their anatomy.

Thank you for looking, and your suggestions are appreciated.

Awwwwww, so sweet!!!! Only wish the shadow of the face was not in the wing. Great eye contact. One flash? Controlled environment?

Like the head turn Brian! And the gorget is gorgeous, although perhaps a little oversharpened. I wish the pink up top had the same look as the pink on the neck. Thanks for posting!

Cute pose and great BG. The chest does look a bit oversharpened but I like the overall feel.

Lovely! Cute! And very nice, light, Bg, colors, etc, the chest seems a bit oversharpened. Congratulations!

This is very nice. Love the head angle and BG. I would remove some of the noise in the BG!

Brian- I think the flap is just part of the feathers in the gorget or bib which can stick out like this when the Costa's Hummingbird is displaying. Is there any skin and bones involved? I really like the image- great head tilt, curve in the body, symmetry and BG.

Thank you for all the substantive feedback!

I was trying to increase the contrast for slightly more detail, and I believe this contributed to the over sharpening. I will fix it, and back it all down.

I was also trying out NIK Viveza, and although it makes easy local changes (without layer masks) ... I found it too easily introduce noise unless I was really careful with it.

    Hi Fabs!
Thank you for the feedback. Yes, only one flash (trying to use as a light fill), otherwise all natural lighting (which lit up the gorget). It was a partial controlled environment (use of a feeder). Other than the feeder, everything else (including background) is natural.

    Hi John!
Thank you for the explanation. I used the wrong term ... yes, you are correct that no skin or bones are involved in that protruding flap. I mentioned it to prevent possible request to clone out something that was told to me that occurred naturally.

Paul Lagasi has very kindly pointed out that the bird is an Anna's rather than a Costa's Hummer. I agree- the Costa's has a distinctive white upper breast below the gorget. Thanks Paul. This bird may be a young male as it appears not to have the full colour and markings in the head (ref. Sibley).

Pretty darned good. Love the pose and the lit gorget. Is this an Anna's? Great expression on the bird's face! A little black to the neutrals might make it pop a bit more.

    Hi Artie!

Thank you for the suggestion and am giving them all a try. Yes, I believe this is an Anna Hummingbird (book says rose color iridescence, vs. a purple iridescence for similar Costa).
