Hi Folks,
I was going through an old file today and found this Black Crowned Night Heron . Then I started fiddling with the saturation slider and I got this:D:eek:. Just for fun - hope you like him...
400D 100-400mm @ 400
F5.6 (which would explain the very narrow depth of field!!)
ISO 200
AV EV metering @ -0.3 It was underexposed but how else would you deal with those 'spotlights'??
Best regards to all,
Nicki
The two white display feathers and teh feathers on the back are sharper than the eye; it appears that sharp focus was well this side of the eye. At times I like the sparkling highlights, but they are too concentrated. Lastly, the bird is facing away and in this instance, that does not work for me. EXP looks fine.
The out of the box repost takes advantage of the strength of the image.

Hi Artie,
Yes, I agree that the main focus point must have been on the bird's body - beginner's luck.....(this was taken back in March when my mistakes were REALLY basic...)
My only problem with the repost is that it is not immediately clear what the picture is of. Does it work as an abstract?
Best regards,
Nicki
Hi Nicki - hmm though I had replied to this ... strange :)
Artie has it covered - I do like Arties repost, it then becomes about the layers and patterns. Looks a little dark on my screen- although I do need to recalibrate.

Hi Nicki,
I like the composition very much; its a different approach. I like the out of focus lens flairs that comprise your background. and I also like the angle of capture from the lower left side. No nits from me, the eye factor was mentioned...congrats my lady, a job well done...keep them coming...:D:cool:
